What power steering fluid does
In hydraulic steering, this fluid transmits the force that makes turning the wheel smooth, almost effortless. Over the years it degrades, gets dirty and loses its properties. When that happens, the steering pump works under strain to compensate.
This is where the real money is
The steering pump is far from a cheap part. Renewing the fluid on time costs little; replacing a pump ruined by old fluid costs a great deal more. It’s pure maths.
The symptoms you shouldn’t ignore
